Guest Speakers:
Dean McCarthy is a 2020 graduate of Holy Heart of Mary Regional High School in St. John’s, NL. He graduated with honours and has completed multiple IB courses, scoring 5 or higher in all of them. Dean has been accepted into the faculty of applied science at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia. He will attend UBC and pursue a degree in computer engineering beginning in fall 2020. During his time in high school, Dean was heavily involved in the choral program, student council, and various volunteer clubs. He took the role of baritone section leader in the chamber choir and conducted a smaller all-male choir, sat as a grade representative on the student council during all 3 years of his secondary education, and was one of 4 executives that lead the Holy Heart Rotary Interact club during his final year. Dean was well known amongst the students and faculty for his involvement in both academics and extracurricular activities.
Michael Salib is a recent graduate from St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. After receiving offers from McGill University, University of Toronto, and many more, Michael decided to pursue Architecture at the University of Waterloo in September of 2020. Michael graduated with a 98% average and has had the top overall average in all his high school years. Michael was also the head of his school’s Perfect organization and was voted the Valedictorian for the Class of 2020. Throughout his high school experience, Michael enjoyed getting involved in different activities. He played the main role in the school play in two consecutive years and was the first-ever Gonzaga student to win first place in the French Public Speaking Contest (Concours d’art oratoire) in Ontario. Michael loves all things art, outdoors, and cooking!
